PANCAKE DAY!!!

It's pancake day today!! woop woop! I know its late but I have 40 minutes left and I want my pancake!! I never make em though... because when i was really young I tried to make pancakes myself because my Mom couldn't be arsed. I heated about an inch of oil in the pan til it was smoking hot then poured in the batter mix and it started sizzling. For some dumbass reason I was stood on a chair over the stove...(you can see where this is going right?!) and I tried to flip my pancake over but instead of having a perfectly hald done pancake, i threw frickin boiling hot oil all over my head. The front of my hairline had a burn scar in the shape of a comedy drip for about two weeks and the middle point of my front hairline has never been the same since. So now I don't even go near the batter. Here is a simple recipe from the BBC Website for you folks at home....

Apparently there is an image of Jesus in this pancake!

Ingredients
For the pancake mixture:
110g/4oz plain flour, sifted
pinch of salt
2 eggs
200ml/7fl oz milk mixed with 75ml/3fl oz water
50g/2oz butter
To serve:
caster sugar
lemon juice
lemon wedges

Method
Sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl with a sieve held high above the bowl so the flour gets a airing. Now make a well in the centre of the flour and break the eggs into it. Then begin whisking the eggs - any sort of whisk or even a fork will do - incorporating any bits of flour from around the edge of the bowl as you do so.

Next gradually add small quantities of the milk and water mixture, still whisking (don't worry about any lumps as they will eventually disappear as you whisk). When all the liquid has been added, use a rubber spatula to scrape any elusive bits of flour from around the edge into the centre, then whisk once more until the batter is smooth, with the consistency of thin cream. Now melt the 50g/2oz of butter in a pan. Spoon 2 tbsp of it into the batter and whisk it in, then pour the rest into a bowl anduse it to lubricate the pan, using a wodge of kitchen paper to smear it round before you make each pancake.

Now get the pan really hot, then turn the heat down to medium and, to start with, do a test pancake to see if you're using the correct amount of batter. I find 2 tbsp is about right for an 18cm/7in pan. It's also helpful if you spoon the batter into a ladle so it can be poured into the hot pan in one go. As soon as the batter hits the hot pan, tip it around from side to side to get the base evenly coated with batter. It should take only half a minute or so to cook; you can lift the edge with a palette knife to see if it's tinged gold as it should be. Flip the pancake over with a pan slice or palette knife - the other side will need a few seconds only - then simply slide it out of the pan onto a plate.
Stack the pancakes as you make them between sheets of greaseproof paper on a plate fitted over simmering water, to keep them warm while you make the rest.

To serve, spinkle each pancake with freshly squeezed lemon juice and caster sugar, fold in half, then in half again to form triangles, or else simply roll them up. Serve sprinkled with a little more sugar and lemon juice and extra sections of lemon.

The other night I was watching Boyz In the Hood. I hadn'tt seen it for ages and there was a repeat episode of CSI on so I settled for that and I forgot how good it was!! Oh lordie, as soon as I switched it on the chick in it (the babymomma of Ricky who gets shot) had the EXACT same outfit and i had on!! an acidwash denim mini and Nike tee with sleeves rolled up and ghetto hoops, albeit her tee was red and mine was grey...Whoa! and then her other outfits were similar to mine tooooo. All the girls in the film look wicked. I love that film. Roll on 1991...I guess I am still in LA mode...I wish I had gone to Crenshaw!

THE BRIDGE!!!

Last month I went to see a preview of 'The Bridge' at the ICA with my
home boy Gwar , trust me if you know him you'll know that there's
no better person in the world to watch a film about people committing suicide than
him. Check out the trailer, It's showing at the ICA 16 Feb 2007 - 22 Mar 2007, and is a MUST SEE.

So basically it's a documentary surrounding suicides that take place at
Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, which is notorious for it's high suicide
rate. It follows the stories of the those the decide to end their life there,
and tries to establish, though talking to their loved ones, what drove
them to it.

The film was amazing! No seriously it was fucking insane, I thought it
would be quite unnerving watching people jumping from a 220ft bridge
and falling 4 seconds to their death, but instead it was
quite poetic, which was definitely achieved through the cinematography
the shots were beautifully soft and angelic though their movement. And
at the same time the content displayed not a sense of sensationalism, it
was very delicately done. It's weird because I didn't feel distressed
or any discomfort throughout, instead I kind of warmed to those now deceased and
understood where they were coming from.

What I got from it was this. You may have people around you that love
and care for you, as well as having a respectable job, a home and a
family, but this all means nothing if you feel you have no one or
nothing in YOUR life to love. Think of it like this, to love someone
means that you'll your best not to do anything to hurt them, you'll
care and look after then as best you can, you couldn't imagine life
without them . Now imagine if you felt like this about no one. Not a
family member, a lover, even a friend. To a certain degree you would feel
like you have no one to live for. This alone is enough to allow you
to fall into depression and eventually you lack of self worth will
make you feel as though life is not worth living. As much as we'll be
quick to say that it was a cowardly way to go out, it is also the
bravest decision you could ever make, there is no going back once you
have done it, you can't change your mind halfway through.

That night I couldn't sleep, I was thinking... yes there has been
points in my life where I have been depressed and at really low
points, but there's always been something or someone there that you
keeps you going.... I am thankful for that.

IT'S A DAMN SHAME

I have NEVER seen this video for the infamous track "Its A Shame (My Sister)" by old school Brit rapper Monie Love....cheeeeckkkk it!!!

ST VALENTINES DAY MASSACRE!

I didn't post anything yesterday but not because I was being anti-Valentines or anything, I'm actually very soppy and romantic. I was just super busy, thats all. But now its worth posting about because I left my house in the morning with the biggest smile on my face, just happy for no reason as usual, and I came home crying my eyes out with all my mascara running down my cheeks. I'm not gonna bait up the parties involved as HE knows what happened.... but to recap: I didn't eat all day so I had a massive headache, the manager of Anda De Bridge was the rudest bitch to me for absolutely no reason whatsoever (maybe a boycott is in order even though no one ever goes in that drybone bar), then I got a bucket of water and a pint glass thrown at me from a 2nd floor window, nicking my leg and making me bleed under my tights, then I buy a Thai Green Curry takeaway, then I call one of my dear friends in distress, who is a boy, and some girl picks up the phone and when I ask politely if I may speak to him, she asks who I am then hangs up on me!! WTF!!! I sent her a text first telling her the guy was my friend and I really needed to speak to him and if she thought we were involved she is mistaken...then she still didnt pick up so i sent her another one calling her a "silly litte girl" and saying she won't last long with that behaviour (I know this boy well). I was distraught! Then in a little bit of cheer (but not really because I was still in trauma from the pint glass attack) I got an Valentines email from a secret admirer...

So I got home and ate my curry alone, watched 3 episodes of CSI back to back, drank a glass of wine then went to bed. I worked out who the secret admirer was (I DON'T WATCH CSI FOR NUTHIN Y'KNOW!) and fell asleep. Believe me guys, I don't seek drama, it follows me around wherever I go....

What I would REALLY have liked for Valentines is....

Oh, and the love of a good man....

ALL GONE!!

Oh Lordie! I finally got my copy of this amazing book from La MJC, Indesignwetrust and Colette called "All Gone" documenting all the limited products of 2006. The book goes through the year month by month detailing the product, designer and amount released. It weird because some of the products seem years old but were only released months ago, testament to the fast moving nature of the streetwear industry i guess.... Its beautifully made with the logo foilblocked in gold on the front, a belly band, with stickers and a poster. It features products from MTTM, Vans, Adidas, Bape, Alife, , Medicom, Neighborhood, Nike, Kaws, Futura, James Jarvis. Its dope yo! Thanks to my girl Linlee at Colette in Paris for the hook up. Unfortunately its sold out now so you're gonna have to peep someone elses copy...
