OH, BY THE WAY...

...have you seen the flash new Puma/Yo! MTV Raps site? Oh you have? I know, I know...I'm late.
Anyways, Puma have put together a limited edition range of clothing and trainers to honour the classic hip-hop show which ran from 1988 to 1996 and was hosted by Dr. Dre (not that one), Ed Lover and Fab Five Freddy. RIP to that shit...MTV doesn't even know what hip-hop is from the looks of things these days. I can't even watch that channel.
Check out the site, it's pretty cool. And features Big Daddy Kane which is always welcome.
I only blogged so I could show this picture really.

COOL GIRL OF THE DAY: MULAN

It's 2am right now and I really should be in bed, trying to avoid rolling into work looking like a crackwhore again. But I'm not. So I'm going to put a video on. Yes, a good old fashioned VHS tape, none of that new fandangled DVD shit. I'm gonna watch Mulan, my favourite Disney film.

Before anyone steps in to say how historically accurate the film is or how it portrays this race or that race, I'll just ask you to leave that shit at the door for now and simply look at Mulan as a character. She's basically a girl who society tried to force to become more ladylike to fit in with traditional notions of what a girl should be, which she HATED. All she wanted to do was hang out and have fun in her camo tracksuit bottoms and Air Jordans. Oh no, sorry, that's me. But I'm sure if she was about now, she'd want the same. I'm sure of it.

Then war breaks out and a male from her family has got to represent. But the only male who can do it is her old pops who is in a bit of a fragile state. No-one wants him to go off to war, but he has no choice. It's either that or shame on the family forever.

But Mulan ain't having that. She chops her hair off and masquerades as a boy so that she can take her father's place. When he finds out, he runs out into the rain and falls over in the mud which is the most heartbreaking scene in cinematic history. Well, after that bit in Dumbo where his mum goes nuts and starts smashing up the gaff. But pops needn't have worried because Mulan gets the job done and saves China and it's all good.

I love Mulan because she would do anything for her family. Now let's compare her to another Disney character: that floozy Pocahontas.

Yes, yes, I know that this film is TOTALLY historically inaccurate, but let's just take it at face value for the purpose of my rather tenuous comparison. Pocahontas, in Disney's film, is not only happy to ponce around all day doing nothing, but she actually sells out her family for a man! And a man that she only met because he was on his way to burn down her village and wipe out her people or some shit. Mulan would never do that. NEVER!

I know who I'd rather hang out with.

Next week - Finding Nemo: who gives a shit?

IF I COULD SKATE..

I WOULD BUY EACH ONE OF THESE CUTIES!! But unfortunately, I am too old to be breaking any bone in my body unnecessarily (In my opinion, skating needs to tackled at a younger age like 11 when you are more fearless!) These are the beautiful products of the collaboration between Supreme and Takashi Murakami and Mr. for an upcoming series of skate decks.

Murakami works in both fine arts media as well as commercial media and he blurs the boundaries in both low and high art. He is a living art legend in my eyes with distinct influences from manga and anime (which I both love!). Mr. 's style is also greatly influenced by the Otaku (manga/anime) culture in Japan with, anime-like two- and three-dimensional representations of joyful adolescents..however his decks and art have a slightly more sexual side to it as you can see..it won't take you long to distinguish which artist painted which deck!
Also, Ironically, Mr. was discovered by Takashi Murakami in 1995 and has since been involved with Murakami's art organization Kaikai Kiki..

Anyway, I think it's better for you all to google/research them anyway to get the full biography and to also educate yourself of these two incredible artists because the only thing that seems to come out of my mouth when I hear their names is "They're dope!" which doesn't translate into good English..

The series will include a set of 3 decks designed by each artist and they will be available at Supreme locations Los Angeles, New York and Japan as well as selected shops.

Until next time..

CAMEO - ATTACK ME WITH YOUR LOVE

Massive respect to Guardian Unlimited for this article which highlights one of my favourite videos ever! The lady that wrote this needs to come and write for WAH! - she knows what time it is (although she does concede at the end that it wasn't actually her idea)!!!

OOH, I COULD DO WITH A NICE COLD CRUSH...

This week I've been so tired and groggy at work. If anyone even dares to ask me a question, such as "Josephine, are you coming to this meeting?" or "Josephine, is it okay if you handover that proposal you promised you'd do three months ago?", they get this:

Poor bastards.

I've been trying to figure out why I'm at the end of my tether and I've come to this revolutionary hypothesis: my moods are directly linked to the number of hours sleep I get. I know. Crazy.

For the last few weeks, instead of ensuring I get my eight hours beauty sleep a night, I've been fannying around on MySpace and Blogger until 2am and then when I'm through with that I lie on the sofa pretending I'm going to watch a film and, yes, I will be good tonight and plait my hair so it doesn't start locs-ing up and yes, I will clean my face so I don't get mascara smeared all over the white leather sofas but then I feel the smooth sexy fingers of sleep caressing my skin saying "Josey, Josey...it's okay, sleep my child, sleep..." and before I know it my alarm clock is going off and I'm crying (really) and I get ready for work and roll in bleary-eyed and puffy as a crackwhore. Red eyes and everything. Pete Doherty ain't got shit on me in the monrings.

For the last couple of nights, the film I've pretended to watch at 2am is Wild Style. I watch the scene at the ampitheatre again and again until I fall asleep and the remote slips out of my hands and smashes onto the floor. I love Mr. Freeze's entrance and Ken Swift's bit the best.

Anyway, if you love Wild Style too (don't we all?) then you'll be happy to know that two of the Cold Crush Brothers are going to be playing a DJ set at Jazz Cafe this Friday. I caught Charlie Chase when he played at The Social in London with Toni Tone a couple of years back and I can honestly say that it was my favourite DJ set of all time. I've heard a lot of DJ sets and so I don't say that shit likely. Bare rare grooves in the place.

So head down if your free...and come and say hello! If you're a guy, please don't try and dance behind me though because I'll have to knee you in the bollocks.

Bye! x

NME BITING MY STYLE

Thanks to my friend Sulinna who alerted me to this blatant follow-fashionism:

DAMN TEEFS!!!

WHAT A BUNCH OF WEIRDOS!!!

Ok, so while everyone was having a dope time down in Shoreditch at Doctor's Orders on Friday, I was having a great, but equally shitty experience over my weekend...
My Pops is a 'retired' Sound man, but lets just say he stills DJs as a hobby for friends from time to time. He told me he was gonna help out for some birthday party coming up, and asked if I too would I like to throw down some tunes - umm, yeah! I'd first learnt how to mix on turntables since I was like 16 or 17, and I've pretty much been collecting vinyl like crazy ever since. This would be my first 'proper set' for anyone outside of my own fam or friends.

Then I came to find out that the party was for some 18 year old chick from my ends (area/manor/hood)...I began to feel a bit sceptical. The majority of the 18 year olds I see these days are waste - no real taste or knowledge of real tunes, plus dumb fucking attitudes. Also, I didn't like the fact that there was no request for Hip Hop...what so ever! Not a good look at all, but 'whatever!', it's her big day and I really wanted her and her homies to enjoy themselves so I brought a big selection of R'n'B, Bashment, Soca, Funky House, Garage etc. - I even went out of my way to make sure I had all the lastest bate swagness.

Anyways, long behold, so said so fucking done...
I brought my sis, her friend and one of my best friends for company. My Mum also dropped by later on. I was mixing some tunes to warm up, and thank God my friend was there to keep me company, coz fuck knows the b'day girl didn't think she needed to introduce herself for a good few hours! Once she did, I wished she hadn't bothered, as she had the worst attitude. No respect/appreciation/manners or even common-fucking-sense, and that includes her friends too for that matter (I don't care if that sounds harsh - true stories)! Once my set started I didn't like being hassled every other bloody minute and being spoken to like some kinda pussy'ole, being "Oi'd" and all sorts! I was ready to switch.

For the most part, the selection went down really well, but generally it just felt like they didn't know about the real bangers - I mean bate tunes that would make anyone that came to have a good time start whilin' out. At one point I was very close to packing up, but I can be kinda bad tempered and over the top sometimes guess. It's all about being profesh.

My sis jumped on for a bit and saved the day...to give me time to chill and calm down for a bit, and she did a wicked job! Thank fuck for family, ay!?

Aside from all the negativity though, I must stress that the whole DJing experience is one of the best feelings in the world! I had such a good time mixing for an audience, and I'll definetly have to do it again at some point...just for a 21+ crowd (no offence to the younger crew out there reppin' - I know there are loads of you out there ;-)
In the end we got shut down by the council because of the noise levels, and the whole thing had to finish at like 1:30 - that's not sexy!

...Let's just say it was an interesting experience to say the least!
