...to anyone who is celebrating the festival of lights this weekend. My great-grandfather 'Papa Lal', who moved from India to St. Lucia as an indentured worker at the beginning of the twentieth century, was Hindu and so I'll be stuffing myself with ras malai until I throw up in his honour. It's what he would have wanted.

yes, an ancient sacred symbol used in religions such as hinduism and buddhism. hijacked by the nazis around 1920s.
at usc we have a huge indian population and my first year of college one of my suitemates was indian so I used to run around with her and participate in a lot of their programs. my favorite was garba where my friends got me all dressed up in their beautiful traditional clothes and we dances for hours. I enjoy their culture a lot.
