GHANA FASHION WEEK 1817

Following on from Dianne's 'Shopping in the Sheets' post down the page, which highlighted her love of knee high boots, I learnt today in a lecture series called 'Transatlantic Enslavement' at City Hall, London (which by the way is a wicked, wicked course - and free!) that back in the days, the peoples of the Ashanti Empire (pre-colonial Ghana) used to buss the knee-highs too!

One European vistor to the region in the nineteenth century noted that the locals were rocking "immense boots of dull red leather, coming half way up the thigh". Pure style and fashion in the place.
